Frequently Asked Questions

For couples: (traditional weekly  or bi-weekly therapy)

How does EFT therapy work?

We start by slowing things down. Rather than diving straight into the conflict, we look at the patterns underneath it — the cycle that keeps pulling you apart. From there, we work on helping you both understand what's really happening emotionally, and we create new moments of connection that begin to replace the old painful ones. It's a process, and it unfolds at your pace.

How long does it take?

Every couple is different, but many couples start to notice a shift within 8–12 sessions. Full courses of EFT often run between 12–20 sessions. If there's significant hurt or trauma in the relationship, it will likely take longer. What I can tell you is that I won't keep you in therapy longer than you need to be — the goal is to get you back to your lives, feeling better equipped and more connected.

Do you work with LGBTQIA+ folks?

Absolutely, and wholeheartedly. All couples are welcome here — every relationship deserves the chance to heal and grow, and I bring the same care and expertise to yours as I do to any other.

Do you work with polyamorous or ethically non-monogamous couples?

This is a great question and I appreciate you asking it. The short answer is no — and not because I have any judgment about ENM. Ethical non-monogamy is a valid relationship structure and the people in those relationships deserve excellent care. The reason I don't work with ENM couples is simple: I'm not trained in it and I don't have experience with it, and I believe in staying in my lane. You deserve a therapist who genuinely knows this territory. The good news is I know some excellent ones, and I'm happy to point you in the right direction.

What results can we expect?

Most couples who complete EFT report feeling significantly closer, safer, and more understood by their partner. The arguments don't disappear — but they stop feeling so threatening. You'll have a better understanding of each other, a shorter path back to connection after conflict, and a relationship that feels more like a team. The research backs this up, and so does what I see in my office every week.

What are your fees?

60 minute couples session: $255; 90 minute couples session: $375. (For information on intensives see below)

How do we get started?

Simple — just reach out. Call or fill out the contact information form. Josh, the practice manager, will get in touch with you and he will ask you a few basic questions and if you agree that you'd like to continue, he will set you up with an intake session with me.

Couples Intensives: (1-2 days)

Why are the fees higher than regular therapy?

An intensive is a premium service — and the investment reflects that. When you book an intensive, I clear my calendar entirely for two days. No other clients, no divided attention, no competing priorities. Just you. The fee accounts for the preparation, the energy, the schedule flexibility, and most importantly — the concentrated value you receive. Most couples find that two intensive days moves them further than months of weekly sessions.

What can we expect to accomplish?

A lot. We'll spend significant time helping you understand and interrupt your current cycles of conflict and disconnection. You'll explore the unmet attachment needs that are quietly driving your patterns, and you'll start to see each other's behavior differently — not as attacks or indifference, but as protection strategies that made sense once. That shift builds empathy, emotional safety, and real connection. Most couples leave feeling less anger, more confidence in their ability to communicate, and better equipped to handle the uncomfortable moments that used to derail everything. Many say it feels like they finally have an emotional language they can share.

What kind of schedule can we expect?

Exact scheduling can be determined at the time of booking, and is flexible depending on how you’re feeling during your intensive (e.g., if longer breaks are needed). If you are interested in getting part of the intensive reimbursed through out-of-network insurance benefits, we may also schedule the intake and individual sessions on a different day to increase potential insurance reimbursement. We also have the flexibility to do the couples intake and individual sessions virtually, even if you have scheduled in-person.

Are intensives online or in-person?

Intensives can be scheduled online or in-person. Please note that, due to licensure laws, I can only work with you if you are in the state of Washington. In-person intensives take place at my office in Bellingham, WA. There are multiple options for accommodations and dining if you are coming from out of town. Josh, the practice manager will work with you on accommodations if you would like.

What if we don't live in Washington but are interested in an in-person intensive?

You just need to be physically in the state of Washington at the time of our work together. If you are out-of-state, you can travel to Washington for the couples intensive. Some couples like traveling for the intensive, as it adds to the experience of having a get-away purely to focus on your relationship. Bellingham is a beautiful tourist destination that many people enjoy for the ocean and mountains and endless outdoor activity possibilities.

How do we get started?

We start with a free 30-minute consultation — both of you, together — so we can meet, get a feel for each other, and make sure an intensive is the right fit. If it is, we'll get your dates on the calendar and I'll send you prep materials to complete within a week of booking. A non-refundable deposit of half the total cost holds your dates for one week. To keep your spot, I'll need your intake paperwork completed in the client portal within that window.

What should we do outside of sessions during our intensive?

Think of a multi-day intensive like a private couples retreat. The time between sessions is yours — and I'd encourage you to keep it unscheduled and gentle. Exercise, bodywork like massage or acupuncture, creative expression, a hike, sitting on the beach, good food, rest. This isn't the time to run errands or catch up on work. This time is precious--treat it that way.

Are there any guarantees?

As with any therapy, I can't guarantee specific outcomes — every couple is different and results vary. What I can tell you is that an intensive gives you something weekly therapy can't always offer: extended, uninterrupted time to go deep without the stop-and-start rhythm of weekly sessions. The research on intensive formats is still growing, but what exists is promising — and the research on intensive individual therapy is overwhelmingly positive, which speaks to the power of the format itself. I've seen couples walk out of intensives genuinely transformed. I've also seen couples need more time and continued support afterward. Either way, you'll leave with more clarity, more tools, and a better understanding of each other than when you arrived.

Will it be hard?

Yes, it will be hard. Intensives are called intensives for a reason. The work is real, and you may feel emotionally tired during or after the sessions. It's also normal to notice more friction at first as things get stirred up. That's part of the process, not a sign that something is wrong. We'll take breaks, keep the pace manageable, and I'll make sure you both feel supported every step of the way.

Can we use insurance for an intensive?

I don't bill insurance directly, but I can provide a superbill for each session that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. If getting partial reimbursement is important to you, we can structure the scheduling strategically — for example, scheduling the intake and individual sessions on a separate day — to maximize what you're able to submit. I'd recommend calling your insurance provider ahead of time to ask about your out-of-network benefits so you know what to expect going in.

For individuals:

How do I know if I'm ready for therapy?

If you're asking that question, you're probably ready. Readiness doesn't mean having it all figured out or knowing exactly what you want to work on. It just means something in you is saying it's time. That's enough to start.

What does an individual session actually look like?

Sessions are 50 minutes, and they're conversational — not clinical. We'll talk, we'll slow things down, we'll follow what feels most alive or most stuck for you that day. Over time we'll start to notice patterns together, and the work will deepen from there. You won't be handed worksheets or homework assignments. This is relational, experiential work — meaning things shift in the room, not just in your head.

How long does individual therapy take?

It depends on what you're working on and how deep you want to go. Some people feel significant shifts within a few months. Others do longer term work and find it valuable to keep going. We'll check in regularly about how things are feeling and whether the pace and format are working for you. There's no pressure to commit to a timeline upfront.

What's the difference between EFIT and regular talk therapy?

Traditional talk therapy can be incredibly helpful — but it primarily works at the level of insight. EFIT goes deeper than that. It works at the level of emotion and attachment, helping you access and process the feelings that are driving your patterns, not just understand them intellectually. A lot of people have spent years understanding why they do what they do — and still doing it. EFIT helps you actually change it.

Do you work with people who are not in a relationship?

Absolutely — and this is actually some of my favorite work. If you're single and wanting a healthy relationship, working on your attachment patterns now is the most powerful thing you can do. You don't need a partner in the room to do attachment work. You just need yourself.

Do you work with people who are currently in a relationship?

Yes. Individual therapy can be incredibly valuable even when you're partnered — especially if you want to understand your own patterns, work through something personal, or grow in ways that will benefit your relationship without doing couples therapy right now.

What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't work?

I hear this a lot — and I take it seriously. There are a lot of reasons therapy doesn't land: wrong fit, wrong approach, wrong timing. EFIT works differently than a lot of traditional talk therapy, and I work differently than a lot of therapists. If you're willing to give it another shot, I'd love to talk about what hasn't worked before and what might be different this time.

What is the fee for individual therapy?

50 minute session: $225

Do you take insurance?

I don't bill insurance directly, but I can provide you with a monthly superbill — a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out-of-network coverage. I'd recommend calling your insurance provider to ask about your OON benefits before we get started so you know what to expect.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes — I offer virtual sessions for anyone located anywhere in Washington state. Whether you're in Bellingham, Seattle, Spokane, or somewhere in between, we can work together online. In-person sessions take place in my yurt office in Bellingham — which, if you can make it, is worth the drive.

How do I get started?

How do I get started? Simple — just reach out. Josh, my practice manager, will chat with you and ask a few basic questions. If you would like to proceed, he will set you up with an intake session with me. At that session you and I will collaborate and decide if we are a good fit to continue working together.
